Labour Market Information for all
We are excited to be holding 2 paid Hacks each followed by a paid Modding day with around 8-10 developers. These days will form part of the two phases planned to develop a Labour Market Information tool that will help people make better, informed decisions about their career and education choices and enable professionals in the industry to provide the most informed and up to date information to their clients.
Aims of the Hack Day
Rewired State, in conjunction with Warwick IER, will be hosted the Hack Day at the Hub Westminster. The objectives of the Hack Day were:
- To develop apps that will use the API and which will demonstrate the potential of the web service;
- To test the functionality of the LMI API;and
- To present the apps developed during the day to key stakeholders working in careers to get feedback for suitability and relevance for practice.
The UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) has commissioned the Warwick
Institute for Employment Research (IER), working in partnership with Pontydysgu, Raycom
and Rewired State, to develop a careers labour market information (LMI) database that will
be accessible through a web portal and an API. The Hack Day provided a way to understand how to improve the database.
The database will bring together existing high quality data sources, from key national surveys, to open up careers focused LMI to technical developers. The aim is to optimise access to, and use of, core, high quality, national data sources to support individuals make better decisions about learning and work.
